Every employee wants to feel appreciated. For most companies, it is the difference between a good employee and a bad one. The worker that gets praise and gratitude for a job well done, will usually perform better than one that receives no positive reinforcements.
When a boss steps out and makes it known to the employee that they are valued and are doing a great job, this gesture will not be in vain. It helps promote a little healthy competition among-st the employees, and it makes the employee feel they are valued.
Appreciation Programs
Some companies have implemented such appreciation programs that will help to boost the employee's morale. Many are reporting that it is doing that and much more. What happens is when the morale is boosted, the productivity goes up, and the employees are motivated to do more, better.
There are many ways that an employer can let the employee know they are valued and one of the easiest is a simple appreciation letter. The letter can be a formal statement and can also announce a bonus, gift or some other token of appreciation.
The letter doesn’t have to be over the top or even formal, it just needs to say how valued the employee and their work ethics are to the company.
Valuable Contributor
Some employer might ask why they need to do a letter of this nature. If the company is a large one, where hundreds of employees work, people begin to feel more like a number than a valuable contributor.
When one goes out of their way to do a good job, or they are working on a project that ends up being successful, it is important to single them out and allow them to know how well they did.
By realizing what they did right, they will continue to do it and more in the future. If an employer steps out and makes a point to tell an employee how well they are doing, they can guarantee that employee will continue to perform at high levels and even push themselves a bit. There is something about a boost in self-esteem that just seems to challenge everyone and make them work harder.
The recognition letter doesn’t have to be long and drawn out. It can be short and to the point, something written in a matter of minutes.
This few minutes out of a busy bosses day will go a long way in keeping the employees happy. It also works wonders for employee retention. Most people will stay where they are appreciated.
What To Put In The Letter?
Always start the letter with Dear and the employee’s first name. Don’t make this formal and stuffy. Rather, avoid being proper and saying “Mrs. Smith” rather say, “Dear Carole.”
Remember, the goal is to ensure that the employee is appreciated, so starting with their name is a good touch. It makes it seem less form letter and more personal.
The first sentence should state what the company has noticed their efforts and how grateful they are for the work that has been done. While these letters are generalized, they are more a formality.
The gift or bonus will be the part that is most memorable to most people. Keep the focus to their attributes and not the gift, if applicable.
Making the letter personal in nature is better for accomplishing the goal. Be sure it is full of praise and encouragement and is sincere.
Even if it is a standard form letter for the company, be sure to change parts to make it pertinent to the person and have a personal touch. Here is a sample award recognition letter.
